The first company I contacted was CASA, this is a volunteer program that works with abused children in the county. This particular program doesn’t offer paid positions, but the experience I would gain in my field is great! Plus I would work and get to know a lot of people in my line of work that could lead to job opportunities. The program looks for people who are committed for 1 year, who can write reports on how the children are doing, can spend 8 hours a month spending time with the children and attend court hearings for them. Yes I am going to take advantage of this opportunity in the fall when the next training is held. This is a really great program and I’m excited to start helping a child in need.
The next company I contacted is Center for Change. This is a company that assists and houses people with eating disorders. They offer paid positions to those with a bachelor’s degree in the field of work experience. They are looking for people with a background in Psychology and or nutrition. They want people who are a good example to the patients. I may be interested in pursuing a career in with this company, but it isn’t my specialty line of work. There may be other jobs/internships that would suit me better, and that I would be more interested in.
Discovery Academy is a group home for teens with problems. I think the environment is great and the activities sound fun. They offer work to students that haven’t graduated yet, but the pay is $7.50 per hour and you must be 21. That may be good for a single student that pays rent. Though I would love the position and the environment, I can’t put in enough hours for that pay with 3 kids and a house payment. This position is not for me. There aren’t regular raises so it wouldn’t be worth my time in the long run.
